This interview is with Rafael Romis, founder and CEO of Weberous, an award-winning web design agency in Los Angeles. It was condensed by The Oracles. Who are you? Rafael Romis: I was born and raised in Greece and studied and worked in London at a pharmaceutical company. When I was 21, the owner thought I was a corporate spy because I networked with so many suppliers — but that's a long story. After a brief stint back in Greece, where I opened a retail store, I decided to move to Los Angeles. I found my home there in many ways. It’s where I started my digital agency, Weberous, met my wonderful wife, adopted our dog, and recently welcomed our daughter. In my two years running a marketing agency and seven years running Weberous, I have been involved in hundreds of digital projects, wit..

This Entrepreneur Built a Business That Pays You to Listen to Podcasts. Here Are His 4 Tips for a Successful Business Idea.

May 1, 2019 4 min read It’s a dream as old as time: Get paid for doing exactly what you normally do with no extra effort whatsoever. Geoff Cook, founder of Podcoin, aims to make that a reality with what he calls a “loyalty points program” for podcast listeners. The platform, which launched in January 2019, pays each user one “podcoin” for every 10 minutes spent listening -- or between $0.015 and $0.04, depending on your frequency of usage and which podcasts you listen to. Users can cash out via gift cards to outlets like Amazon and Starbucks or use their earnings to make charitable donations. Over the past four months, Podcoin’s usage has grown 15 percent week-over-week, according to Cook, and reached one million listening minutes per day. It’s backed by another company he launched, now called The Meet Group, which has exceeded $400 million in acquisition costs. As for how the app makes money? Podcoin is focusing first on building an audience, according to Cook, ..

The Save the Internet Act, unveiled in both houses of Congress on March 6th, 2019, aims to overturn the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) December 2017 decision to repeal net neutrality. The obvious question is: What if it doesn't pass? The not-so-obvious answer is: the bill can help win the net neutrality battle even if it doesn’t pass. Thinking About Taking Your Product Into Big-Box Stores? You Need Help in These 4 Areas

February 20, 2019 6 min read Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Introducing your online-only product into physical stores calls for a completely different launch playbook. But as difficult as the task ahead may be, it won't be impossible. Example: Quip, an oral care company, successfully launched its product in Target, one of Harbor Retail’s partners, last year. And because Quip meshed well with Target’s new “cheap chic” branding, it was able to gain an additional $40 million in equity financing, after just one fiscal quarter on the retailer’s shelves. Placing your own product in physical stores can help you create a seamless shopping experience for your customers, test new product lines and even create brand awareness. True, web-only brands are taking over ecommerce, but companies like Casper are successful because they’re available in traditional retail stores, too.
